What is accounting?

A simple definition is the recording of financial or money transactions. Not all transactions need to be recorded. Mostly, only business transactions are recorded, personal transactions are rarely recorded by individuals.

For example, you purchase a book for $10. You give the book seller $10; you receive the book & a receipt for $10. More often than not you throw the receipt away; you only want to read the book. The book seller however is operating a business so the transaction will be recorded.

Simply defined, stress is basically the body’s response to any extreme situation, which could be either psychological or physical and which evokes feelings of anxiety, anger and frustration in the person. Stressful experiences are not restricted only to the workplace, they can occur anywhere even in the home. It is well known that our bodies are instinctively responsive to any changes in the environment. The definition of stress then implies that it is something new and uncharacteristic in the surrounding environment that triggers off a stress response.

A second definition of stress suggests that it is a man-made or natural environmental factor, which elicits a response from people who use the experience to learn and grow. While some people regard stress as something they could do without, there are others who welcome it with open arms. These individuals see stress as something they can learn from and are motivated by. However, it has been proven without a shadow of doubt, that constant exposure to stressful situations is harmful for anyone. Any individual who is constantly exposed to stress has a higher likelihood of suffering from mental and physical anguish as well as nervous breakdowns.

It is the force behind most success and failure, the force behind peak performance, successful achievement, living your dream – living your world! Self Esteem is the feeling of being happy with your character and abilities. It is manifested in a wonderful feeling of inner balance, grounded on self acceptance and a healthy, comforting self-respect towards you. This is entirely different from self confidence which is deeply rooted in what you believe you can achieve. There are several cases of self confidence acts without Self Esteem.

When different people are using the phrase ’small business’, do they refer to a common set of definitions? Like, how many employees are listed in the payroll? Or, the number of years it’s operative? A literature review of 23 papers, which have been published from 1958 to 2002, tries to shed light on this issue. The review revealed an inconsistency regarding both characterization and definition of small business.

The variety of definition used in these papers unable to set an agreeable format for small business definition. Mayer and Goldstein (1961) define small business as an employer of less then 200 employees. Potts (1977) set the barrier on 20 employees in addition to a minimum eight years that the business is operative. Robinson (1982) define firm as small if the number of employees is less then 50, the annual sales is under three million dollars and it’s operate as sole ownership. Covin and Slevin (1989) define small business according to number of employees - more then five or less then 500, as well as a minimum of five years that the business is operative.

If you want to be able to playback your transcoded content in high-definition players you will need to use video containers which are capable of using very high bit rates and maintain their compatibility. Video containers which are best suited for this task are AVI, MPEG-2, MKV and WMV, there are many other video containers available however this are the most compatible ones.

AVI is a very popular video container which can use several codecs in order to adjust the quality file size of your media, the most popular codecs used with AVI are DivX and Xvid, additional H.264 enhancement can be added to the encoded media but you will need to find out if your player is capable of reading transcoded files which use H.264 enhancement. The most popular tool in order to transcode video into high-definition AVI is Dr. DivX, others may also use tools such as virtual dub however this one is more complex. Dr. DivX allows you to import files and encode them using the DivX codec which has three different settings, one for portable devices, another one for home theater and the last one which corresponds to high-definition players which is the one you want to use. The bit rate for high-definition DivX files can go as high as 4000 kbps due to the compression algorithms that the code uses, if you apply several passes you might be able to get away with a lower bitrate.
