When was the last time you woke up and had absolutely nothing to do? Probably last summer. When you’ve got some time to yourself, you don’t often know exactly what you want to do. Here are some suggestions for fiddling away those lazy summer days:
Reading
Gather that pile of books you’ve been meaning to read and get to it. Whether you’re into science fiction, history, biographies, romance or something else, there’s no better time than a hot summer day to bask in the shade and let a good book transport you to a far off land and time.
Sunbathing
There’s nothing less stressful than sunbathing, just laying out in the sun for a while. With sunbathing, however, you don’t want to overdo it. Be sure to wear sunscreen and sunglasses.
Picnic
Enjoy the outdoors and the sun by heading to a park with a picnic basket. You don’t need fancy foods or expensive drinks to enjoy a picnic either. You can make great picnic dishes right at home.
Camping
Camping is an especially great summer activity for families with children. Pack up the car and head to the nearest campgrounds or state park. Don’t forget the ingredients to make s’mores! Camping doesn’t even need to be an overnight activity. You can make it a daytrip by enjoying a barbecue near the lake and doing a bit of fishing or hiking.
Scrapbooking
When you have some quiet time to yourself, crafting or scrapbooking is a fun way to spend your time. Sit down with those boxes of pictures that you’ve been meaning to put into an album. You’ll while away the hours just reminiscing and have fun arranging them together in fun ways.
Pamper Yourself
What better way to truly relax than to pamper yourself? You could head to a day spa and spend a fortune, or you could stay home and pamper yourself with a luxurious and long bubble bath.
Celebrations and Festivals
During the summer, there are always festivals, fairs, expos and celebrations of some sort almost every weekend. Check your local paper for what’s coming up in your area. A day at the county or state fair will pack in many of the most popular and traditional summertime activities, including fun rides, indulgent foods and concerts.
Amusement Parks, Museums, Zoos
Last but not least, you can head out to any of the many local amusement parks, wildlife parks, museums or zoos. These are a great way to spend any summer day.
