If you ask any blogger they’d probably say that when it comes to having your own blog installed on your own server, where you have complete control is the best option - compared to having hosted on Blogger or Wordpress. But for different people in different situations, that may not be the case. When it comes to blogging what’s best is not always the option to choose, but what type of blog offers the best advantages to the situation your in. Here’s a list of some of the biggest advantages and differences of having your own blog vs. a blog hosting somewhere.
- It looks professional. If you’re writing a blog to promote a product, what do you think is going to look more professional, the guy who’s blog is hosted on Blogger, or the guy with a blog with a real domain name (www.website.com)? I don’t know about you, but I’d choose the guy with the domain name.
- Faster Indexing. When it comes to indexing, I’ve found that a hosted blog on your own server and a blog hosted elsewhere are indexed equally fast. The only exception would be a Blogger.com blog. Since Blogger is owned by Google, I’ve found that they favor their blogs more, and Blogger blogs are indexed faster and have a better page position then hosted/other blogs.
- The Risk of a Blog Being Deleted. If you host your blog on Blogger.com or Wordpress.com, while it may never happen, there’s always a chance your blog could be deleted. I’ve never had this happen to me, but I’ve heard horror stories where someone had a blog with Blogger and after months of work it got deleted for no reason - and they couldn’t retrieve the information. Obviously, if you host a blog on your own server this could never happen.
- Add-ons. When it comes to add-ons and plugins, a hosted blog on your server has the advantage. There are thousands available, and most blogging platforms (such as Blogger and Wordpress) don’t allow addons.
- Customization. Most of the time, a blog hosted on your own server will allow to edit the .php pages, where you can’t do this on a hosted blog. This allows for a more customized feel, and make your blog stand out as “unique”.
All and all, if you want to create a blog for a long term income, I’d choose a blog hosted on your own server. There’s never a chance it could be deleted, and it allows far more customization. However, it you’re looking for a blog you’re going to use for “fast” income, or for Bum Marketing, I’d go with a hosted blog (such as blogger). It’s more simple and quicker to set up.
I’ve been internet marketing for close to four years now, and have bought almost $2000 worth of money making programs, courses, and ebooks. I’ve found only ONE program that I would EVER recommend you buy. It’s called Profit Lance - go to my site for my in-depth Review of Profit Lance.
